Marquis-Phillips Cabernet Sauvignon S2 2004

McLAREN VALE | AUSTRALIA

A super Cabernet. Big, forward red plum and dark berry fruit, iron minerality velvety texture and lingering finish. Iron minerality. Bottle age has done this wine well. A very good wine, near excellent. The Aussie Marquis half of the brand now makes the exceptional Mollydooker wines (all are recommended), and the American Phillips, who now owns the Marquis-Phillips brand and many others, has not since created similar quality wines. Oliverhill Shiraz Jimmy Section 2006

McLAREN VALE | AUSTRALIA

Jammy blackberry fruit with copper-iron minerality and notes of menthol, bay and orange peel. Full bodied and fruit forward — a high-flying Australian fruit bowl — but missing sufficient earthiness for balance and finish. It’s your friend with all the over-sized promises who never really comes through. A good wine, but only that. (Reviewed 9/17/11)
